The aroma oil of fennel is made up of anethole (50 to 80%),

USES:
Fennel aroma oil is known to have various medicinal uses. It
can be used as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, depurative,
diuretic, expectorant, laxative, stimulant, splenic, stomachic, and as a
vermifuge. The aroma oil is said to be invigorating, restoring,
stimulating, and warming.
